Thorn Hill, c. 1792, is a Virginia Landmark listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The home was built by Colonel John Bowyer, an officer in the Revolutionary War and a central figure in Rockbridge County’s formative years. Among the prominent citizens who have owned Thorn Hill are Judge John Brockenbrough, founder of Lexington Law School, now the Washington and Lee University School of Law, and General E. F. Paxton, Commander of the Stonewall Brigade.
